Dinamika Konsep Persaudaraan (Ukhuwah) dan Larangan Merusak Kehormatan Muslim (Studi Tafsir Surah Al-Hujurat Ayat 12)

Abstract

This study provides an in-depth analysis of the substance of communication ethics and the protection of individual dignity within the framework of Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah) through the lens of Surah al-Hujurat, verse 12. Amidst the prevalence of ethical crises in the digital sphere such as cyberbullying, the spread of slander, and moral degradation in social interactions this verse offers a fundamental normative framework for maintaining social harmony. This study employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach through thematic exegesis (maudhu’i). The author examines the interpretations of exegetes regarding the prohibition against harbouring ill will (zhan), prying into others’ affairs (tajassus), and backbiting (ghibah), which are likened to eating the flesh of one’s own deceased brother. The findings indicate that Surah al-Hujurat, verse 12, is not merely a normative prohibition but a preventive instrument for building a civilised social ecosystem. The concept of ukhuwah in this verse positions the honour of a Muslim as a sacred entity that must be safeguarded from all forms of verbal and non-verbal harm. This study concludes that the implementation of the values contained in this verse is highly relevant as an antithesis to destructive patterns of communication in the contemporary era, whilst also serving as a key foundation for rebuilding inclusive social solidarity
